Apologies for the Silence – Baby on the Way…

April 3, 2012

Hello all,

Just wanted to write a quick post to apologise for the lack of blogging over the past week or so. Our baby was due yesterday and I’ve had nearly a week of labour signs that meant I’ve spent my days either nesting madly, resting lots or actively trying to get through mild contractions!

Our boy’s arrival feels quite imminent so I’m going to put posts on hold for a couple of weeks whilst I get used to being ‘Mum’ – but I’ll be back to Boho Living in no time and will have plenty of pretty to muse over…

Thanks so much for your patience.

Something for the Weekend – Kinky Knickers!

March 23, 2012

As per usual I am totally hooked on the latest Mary Portas programme, Mary’s Bottom Line. Dubbed “the great British knicker experiment” Mary’s aim is to bring back British manufacturing at a time when it’s getting perhaps just as cost-effective to produce quality goods in the UK as it is to go abroad. I’m sold. I adore everything this woman turns her hand to as she does it with such vigour and passion – so here’s what I’ll be indulging in this weekend as a post baby treat, a pair of the Mary Portas Kinky Knickers!

I like the hot pink version – hows about you?

Chevron Love

March 19, 2012

There’s something about the warmer weather that makes my tastes bolder – I always enter the spring/summer season with various crushes on a number of different types of patterns, designs and colourways…this year, it’s chevron print that’s got me going ga ga, I’d happily put it all over our new pad! I might not be brave enough to make a massive statement with it {uh-mazing flooring below!} but a hint of the print will do just nicely at ‘chez boho’. Here’s my inspiration…

Baby Babble – Nursery Ideas

March 14, 2012

We moved house this past weekend to a place that actually has a spare room…though not for long as {when he’s big enough} our baby blue will be moving in there and making it his own. We haven’t the budget to fill a nursery with all the bells and whistles that most shops and magazines try to convince new parents they need – instead, with a little thought we hope to create a cosy nook full of colourful and well placed bits and pieces, some vintage, some new but overall – inexpensive! Here’s our inspiration…

It’s in the planning stages at the moment, but I’ll post up some piccies once it’s done!

Animal Print Love

March 12, 2012

Sexy and sassy, though there’s a fine line between “darling” and ‘Only Fool’s’ Marlene…it looks like our love affair with animal print is set to endure…

Baby Babble – To sleep, perchance to dream…

March 8, 2012

Image – Anne Taintor

I’m 36 weeks pregnant and although I’ve had a few random baby dreams where perhaps I’ve caught a waft of baby smell or have been cuddling a faceless bundle, last night was the first time I’d experienced a baby anxiety dream and it’s really knocked me for six…

I couldn’t give birth. I quite simply couldn’t do it – no matter how much or how hard I pushed nothing was happening – baby wasn’t budging. The scene was perfectly set, it started in our lounge and I was on all fours breathing through contractions, fast forward to a birthing pool where I sat nonchalantly chatting to my hubby whilst he mopped my brow, when finally it was acknowledged by a nurse that although in labour nothing was really happening.

So I got out of the tub and a whole team of masked hospital staff were yelling at me to push – it was all happening in slow motion and no matter how hard I pushed it was as if I was coming up against a brick wall, I could hear the nurses saying that I wasn’t dilating and that they weren’t convinced I was even trying to push through my contractions…

There was no pain but my heart was in agony – it was breaking for our little boy as I was so desperate to get him out safely and to have him in my arms…that’s the last thing I remember before I awoke covered in sweat and desperate for the loo! It was a hard dream to shake and when I eventually got to sleep I had another dream that I’d lost both of our cats at Disney World!!! It was certainly an eventful night…

As if I need any more of a reason to lose sleep eh? So Mums and Mum’s-to-be – have any of you had baby anxiety dreams? Have you found they’ve affected you for days after? And why is it that just ahead of such a life-changing event you find you’re already loosing sleep?! No fair!

Found – Vintage Upcycled Furniture

March 5, 2012

Morning! Today I just had to share this gorgeous shop in my local town Bideford. Found sells up-cycled vintage furniture that has been restored beautifully to suit both modern and character properties. Run by husband and wife team Kim & Martin, not only does the shop offer an array of cupboards, tables and trunks restored and featuring the stunning coastal shades of Farrow & Ball paint,  but the work of trained fine artist Kim is also on display and compliments the furniture beautifully.

This weekend I took ownership of this stunning vintage cupboard. Stripped, distressed, waxed and painted in F&B’s “Pigeon” it looks perfect placed in the lounge of our new pad!

And here is some of the other fabulous furniture you can find in found…

The shop has its own facebook page where they feature newly restored bits and pieces daily – and their clients aren’t exclusively local to Devon as many holiday home owners from far and wide have found their way to Found also…so if you spot something fabulous that you’d like to get your mits on, be sure to contact Kim pronto!
